2025 – Week 2 – Weekly Progress at Collier Computers
Weekly Progress Collier Computers is in full swing for Week 2 of 2025! In this update, I’ll walk you through everything that’s been happening with CollierComputers.com—my dedicated platform for testing, benchmarking, and showcasing computer hardware. This week, the highlights include tackling hardware benchmarks with a new capture card on the horizon, transitioning from spreadsheets to more sophisticated data-tracking, and diving deeper into the new application I built, Benchie. By the end of this post, you’ll have a clear picture of how I’m refining both the video capture process and the overall data organization for better, more insightful hardware performance tracking.
Moving Beyond Spreadsheet Benchmarks
When I first started collecting benchmark data, I logged everything in a simple Google Sheet. While it got the job done for a while, the spreadsheet quickly became cumbersome as I began testing multiple CPUs, GPUs, and storage configurations. Keeping track of performance metrics for different benchmark tools was also a hassle—I’d often have to remember to copy-paste results, make sure I was labeling them correctly, and then try not to lose track of which hardware configurations matched which set of numbers.
Weekly Progress Collier Computers wouldn’t be much of a “progress” report if I didn’t find ways to make this process more efficient. That’s when I decided to build a separate application to help manage it all, leading to the birth of Benchie.
Introducing Benchie
Benchie is an independent web application designed to streamline the entire benchmarking process. Since CollierComputers.com focuses heavily on performance data, I realized that having a robust, dedicated app for storing, comparing, and analyzing results would be a huge step up from a spreadsheet.
- Technology Stack: Benchie runs on Next.js (v15.1.3) for the front end and Strapi (v5) for the backend. This setup allows for quick development and easy customization, enabling me to rapidly add new features.
- Logging Hardware: In Benchie, you can create a record for each computer, specifying details like CPU, RAM, GPU, and storage. This ensures that every benchmark result is tied to a precise configuration, so there’s no confusion when comparing multiple systems.
- Choosing Benchmark Tools: Right now, I’m set up to work with HWiNFO32 and CPU-Z, but I plan to incorporate more tools as I refine Benchie further. Eventually, I want Benchie to serve as a one-stop solution for all major benchmarking software.
- Recording Results: Once you run a benchmark, you simply submit your scores through Benchie. The data is securely stored and displayed in a streamlined format, so you—or others you collaborate with—can quickly evaluate performance differences between builds or components.
Within just a few days of development, Benchie reached a functional prototype stage. After another few days of polishing, I was already saving myself a ton of hassle compared to the old spreadsheet method. Best of all, Benchie scales easily with each new hardware test I run, which means Weekly Progress Collier Computers can continue to highlight new data insights as I expand my hardware collection.
Hunting for a Better Capture Solution
Of course, data alone doesn’t always tell the full story. For that, I need clear, lag-free video captures of each benchmark session. Unfortunately, the budget capture card I tested introduced severe lag and dropped frames, making the footage nearly unusable for demonstrations.
The next item on my priority list is upgrading to a better capture card, likely an Elgato HD60 Pro. This should allow me to record smooth, high-quality videos that illustrate exactly how each computer setup performs in real time. Once I have that in place, expect future Weekly Progress Collier Computers reports to include more dynamic content—like side-by-side video comparisons of different CPUs, GPUs, or even thermal performance under heavy loads.
Looking Ahead
As I wrap up Week 2 of 2025, I’m excited about the direction CollierComputers.com and Benchie are headed:
- Capture Card Upgrade: The Elgato HD60 Pro (or a comparable solution) will pave the way for better benchmark videos.
- Enhanced Benchie Features: I have a long feature wishlist, including interactive performance charts, user-submitted benchmarks, and automated data imports from various software tools.
- More Hardware Tests: Expect a steady stream of benchmark data as I continue to evaluate both cutting-edge parts and older components for reference points.
Weekly Progress Collier Computers remains my guiding theme, and I look forward to sharing more detailed hardware insights, clearer videos, and more powerful data-visualization tools in the weeks ahead. Stay tuned—2025 is already off to a busy start, and there’s plenty more to come!e right capture card in hand. Stay tuned for more developments soon!
